Famous cat-friendly perennial. Nepetalactone oil in the leaves stimulates cat’s pheromone receptors and gives them a sense of euphoria and intense happiness. Dried leaves also make a wonderful herbal tea for humans.
Tricky to germinate because a good percentage of the seeds need the cold and wet of winter to break dormancy. Overcome this by cold stratifying the seeds for 4 to 6 weeks or start them indoors in ideal conditions and use plenty of seed. Prefers moderate moisture in well-drained soil. Pinch back when flower buds appear to extend harvest.
