Winter Squash – Waltham Butternut
Prolific vines produce several butternut squashes that reach 4-6 pounds and 9-10″ long. Fruits store exceptionally well and feature cylindrical necks with small seed cavities and sweet orange flesh.
Start winter butternut squash seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost, with 2-3 seeds per plug. Alternatively, sow directly in hills outside after danger of frost is past. Plant in fertile, well-draining soil. Thin to the strongest two vines per hill.
