Kentucky Wonder Pole Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) is a an old-timey favorite snap bean introduced in 1864 in Kentucky. The 7" bean pods are stringless when harvested early and have a tender texture and reliable flavor. Seed packet contains 2 OZ (about 170 seeds).
This bean is great eaten fresh from the garden, roasted, steamed, or added to stir-fries and casseroles. Also try freezing or canning. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors.
Sow directly outside 1-2 weeks after last frost, when soil has warmed to 65° or more. Plant in sunny location with well-draining soil, spacing seeds out 3-4" apart. Cover well to ensure good soil to seed contact. Once bean pods appear on the plant, pick frequently to extend the harvest.
