Also known as Sacred Basil or Tulsi, Holy Basil (Ocimum africanum) is an important herb in Ayurvedic medicine and in Hindu religious traditions. The herb has a flavor that has hints of clove, mint, and peppers. Makes a refreshing cup of tea. Seed packet contains 400 MG (about 750 seeds).
Growing basil can be a versatile addition to the herb garden indoors or outdoors. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors.
May be grown indoors or outside but must have plenty of light. If growing outdoors, start seed indoors and transplant outside after all danger of frost. Begin taking small harvests when the plant has 6 to 8 pairs of leaves. Harvest early and pinch off flower buds to encourage growth and extend harvest. Succession plantings may be necessary to have fresh basil all growing season.
