Also known as Blazing Star (Liatris Spicata), Gayfeather is a perennial American wildflower native to meadows and marshes. Produces 4' tall spikes of purple flower heads that bloom from the top, creating a feathery effect. Attracts native bees, hummingbirds and butterflies.

Cold stratify before starting or sow seeds outside directly before winter for natural stratification. Press seeds firmly into the soil to ensure good contact and lightly cover. Transplant outdoors into moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil after seedlings reach several inches high. Divide clumps every 2-3 years in springtime.
