Detroit, MI

Detroit Black Community Food Security Network - Works to build self-reliance, food security and justice in Detroit’s Black community by influencing public policy, engaging in urban agriculture, promoting healthy eating, encouraging cooperative buying and directing youth towards careers in food-related fields. Community members can receive a 4' x 4' bed, compost, scouting services, delivery, install, seeds and support with tutorials and education to support new gardeners from seed to harvest.

 

Ishpeming, MI

Partridge Creek Farms - impacts the Ishpeming, MI community through reducing food insecurity, supporting food-based economic development, and providing education to the next generation on sustainable food systems through hands-on farming. They are devoted to building a healthy, prosperous, and empowered local community through food and wellness education. This organization donates hundreds of pounds of produce each year to local homeless shelters, underprivileged elementary school students, farm volunteers, and directly to struggling local community members who engage with the farm staff via volunteering and community events.

Pontiac, MI

HAVEN - is a nationally recognized nonprofit leader that provides shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programming to nearly 30,000 survivors of domestic and sexual assault each year. During the growing season, HAVEN provides free produce grown from seed in their on-site garden. They grow fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers from seed to share along with educational opportunities about gardening, cooking and canning.

 

 

Whittemore, MI

The Community Hub - mission is to provide healthy food to the community and offers education and resources. They offer a seed library to local residents as well as host a community garden to provide fresh produce all summer long. Seed libraries provide important physical and informational resources so that members of the community can learn and practice in growing their own food.
