Charitable Organizations in New Jersey to connect with and donate fresh garden produce and saved seeds:

 

Cherry Hill, NJ

Cherry Hill Public Library - mission is to create community, honor equity, be people focused, and to promote lifelong learning. Their seed library: 1. Encourages the community to dig in and garden; 2. Reconnects the community to the traditions of growing tasty, healthy food; 3. Educates the community about growing, harvesting, and saving seeds; 4. Creates a community-sustained seed collection at the Library; 5. And, provides information, instruction, and education about sustainable gardening. Seed libraries provide important physical and informational resources so that members of the community can learn and practice in growing their own food.

 

Clifton, NJ

City Green - is a 501(c)3 urban farming and gardening organization, based in Clifton, New Jersey working to revitalize urban areas through agriculture and educational programming. It offers practical, technical and financial resources in support of environmental stewardship, equitable access to healthy food, and ecologically sustainable communities. The organization offers continual support for our 120+ school gardens, our preschool gardening program hosted at our five-acre farm site, and two of our primary youth initiatives operating in Paterson, NJ: a multi-site after-school gardening program and field trips to our one acre learning farm available to Paterson elementary schools. These programs provide urban children with the opportunity to develop a deeper connection with the natural environment, gain an understanding of the importance of healthy food systems, and have access to outdoor recreational activities.

 

Hammonton, NJ

The Hammonton Green Committee - is comprised of resident volunteers who are dedicated to the sustainability of our town’s environment. They are committed to taking on projects and hosting events that will help reduce the local environmental footprint and educate citizens on environmental responsibility in south Jersey and beyond. A community garden was established in 2015 which has grown to approximately 40 beds. Garden talks, children's garden workshops and community days are all part of what is offered through the committee.

 

Hampton Community Gardens - consists of 93 individual plots where they grow food for their Community Garden Feeds program. Through this effort they were able to donate hundreds of pounds of fresh produce to residents of the community in need.
 

New Brunswick, NJ

Elijah's Promise - has been serving the New Brunswick, New Jersery community for 33 years as a community soup kitchen. Today, the organization runs a range of programs all with the overarching mission to harnesses the power of food to break the cycle of poverty, alleviate hunger, and change lives. In addition to the community soup kitchen, Elijah's Promise provides education and jobs in the food industry through Promise Culinary School, encourages neighborhood agriculture via their community garden, offers social services to those in need, engages in community advocacy, and creates social enterprise food businesses that further social good. Elijah's Promise is also a FoodCorps Service Site and a FoodCorps service member is partnering with the organization to connect kids to healthy food in two New Brunswick elementary schools.

 

Trenton, NJ

Isles Inc. - is a nationally recognized non-profit community development and environmental improvement organization working with distressed communities. Their mission is to increase the self-sufficiency of families and help create healthy, sustainable communities. Isles provides support for over seventy community and school gardens in the Isles Garden Support Network. Each garden addresses immediate issues such as hunger and environmental degradation and promotes interaction and understanding among city residents of diverse backgrounds as they make a healthier and safer community. Additionally, they work with gardeners to donate produce to emergency food providers.
