Start coleus seeds indoors for early blooms
Sow indoors 8-12 weeks before last frost. Coleus needs light to germinate; gently press seeds into soil or growing medium. Keep seeds well-watered until established. Harden plants and transplant into rich soil after all danger of frost has passed.

Yes, Coleus can make for a great indoor houseplant.
Regular indoor temperatures are perfect for coleus, but it will benefit from additional humidity. Coleus doesn’t require much light and can thrive on a sunny window sill. Give indoor coleus plants regular watering and fertilizing for optimum growth.
Coleus is primarily grown for its beautiful leaves. When coleus goes to seed and flowers, its energy shifts from growing leaves, to flowering and seed production. Pinching or removing the buds as they begin to form will prevent them from blooming and keep your coleus focused on producing lush foliage.
Coleus can be propagated from cuttings. Cut off a 4 to 6-inch stem from the top of the coleus plant. Remove leaves from the bottom of the cutting. Place it in water up to the first leaves. Roots will form on the cut stem. Once the roots are growing, this new coleus plant can be planted in soil.
Allow your coleus to flower and fully mature. Seed heads that have dried and turned brown are ready to be harvested for seed. Shake the seed heads into a bag to remove the seeds. Dry seeds can be stored in a dark, cool location to be planted in another season.
