Drumm Farm Center for Children - is a unique organization offering on-site housing for families who provide foster care for youth from infant to 18 years of age. The tradition of using the most of Drumm’s natural resources to teach life skills to the children it serves is very much alive today. Part of their programming is their 1 acre farm that foster children and parents can work in and harvest from so that individuals can have the opportunity to learn to be self sustaining and so that all have access to healthy produce.
Kansas City, MO
Cultivate KC - is a nonprofit working to grow food, farms, and community in support of a sustainable and healthy local food system for all. It began in 2005 with the goal of promoting urban agriculture — the growing of food in city neighborhoods to feed other people. In the years since, Cultivate KC has grown into a resource provider and advocate in support of the production of fresh, nutritious produce in urban areas throughout the KC metro. Cultivate KC, in partnership with Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, manages the New Roots for Refugees program, which trains refugees with agricultural experience to become independent farmers. The goal for farmers in the program is to learn how to successfully grow in the Kansas City region and to acquire the marketing skills and confidence to become independent small business owners.
The Salvation Army Kirksville Corps - Provides many services to families in need, with one of the most prevalent services being their food pantry. This service allows folks to choose from food items to take home what they can use. Their community garden is planted each year containing 5 raised beds with new additions each year. The harvest from this garden is offered in the food pantry for weekly pickups, and used to cook meals for the public.
Springfield, MO
Convoy of Hope - is a humanitarian relief organization based in Springfield, Missouri with global operations. There are six areas of outreach: international and domestic disaster relief, rural relief initiatives, children's feeding programs, agricultural empowerment, women's empowerment and large-scale community outreach. Their focus on agricultural empowerment in international countries is hoped to be a more permanent solution to food insecurity. Domestically, they also help families with community garden projects (typically distributed in large scale outreaches, pre-COVID) and also in targeted project areas through their rural outreaches.
