Detroit Dark Red (Beta vulgaris) sets the standard for red beets. Dark red 2-3" round beets have sweet red flesh and tasty edible greens. Can tolerate temperature variations. Standard seed packet contains 1.5 g (about 90 seeds). Jumbo packet contains 1 oz (about 1,600 seeds).

Both the leaves and the roots are amazing in salads and other dishes. The roots are sweet and delicious, and are amazing when roasted or pickled. The leaves, when picked young, add delicious color and crunch to fresh salads. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors.

Sow directly outside in deep, fertile, evenly moist soil. Can also be started in cold frame or indoors 5-6 weeks before last frost. Do not disturb tap root when transplanting.
