Long Island Improved Brussels Sprouts (Brassica oleracea) is an heirloom that has been a favorite variety since its introduction in the 1890s. Each plant produces heavy yields of 1" sprouts on a compact plant that reaches 20-24" tall making it a great choice for small spaces or containers. Standard seed packet contains 750 mg (about 250 seeds). Jumbo packet contains 3 g (about 900 seeds).
Brussels Sprouts are full of flavor and are commonly enjoyed sautéed or roasted with other vegetables. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors.
Start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost. Keep well-watered but not saturated, especially during germination, transplanting and as sprouts form. Removing lower leaves gives sprouts space to size up nicely. Can be harvested in stages starting at the base of plant.
