Top Pick Pinkeye Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) is an easy to harvest bush style field pea that yields an abundance of clustered pods at the top of the plant for easy harvest. The pods are ready to harvest when they have reached 8" and are a light purple color. A favorite at the market for its tender texture and sweet flavor. Seed packet contains 13 G (about 75 seeds).
Excellent cover crop and food source for a variety of animals such as deer, cattle, rabbits and chickens. Harvest plenty and enjoy the delicious flavor fresh, frozen, or canned. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors.
Sow directly outside 1-2 weeks after last frost, when soil has warmed to 65° or more. Plant in sunny location with well-draining soil, spacing seeds out 2-4" apart. Harvest peas early as a snap bean, later at the shelling stage when peas swell up, or after the peas have dried completely for dry storage.
