Yellow Crimson looks exactly like a typical watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) on the outside with a striped green rind and weighing up to 20 pounds. Inside is a surprisingly bright yellow flesh with large dark seeds. The flavor is sweet with hints of honey and apricot. A delicious alternative that looks beautiful paired with red varieties.
This variety, and all other watermelons love heat, the hotter the better. If you live in a cooler climate, start seeds indoors early and transplant to the hottest spot in your yard. True to their name, the red flesh of these giant melons is sweet and refreshing. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors
Sow directly into soil that's at least 70°F. For a head start in cooler climates, start indoors 2-4 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Do not disturb tender roots when transplanting. Thin down to 2-3 plants per hill. Keep soil moist but well-drained. Allow plenty of room for vines to spread.
