Also known as garden tickseed, golden tickseed, goldenwave, or calliopsis, Coreopsis tinctoria is a US native annual wildflower that grows 2-3 feet tall and readily self-seeds. Vibrant yellow blossoms with a maroon center bloom in late summer and make a beautiful cut flower. Highly attractive to pollinators.
Sow in late fall to allow seeds to overwinter or cold stratify for 2-4 weeks before planting in spring. Press seeds into soil rather than burying (needs light to germinate) and keep moist until germination. Well-established plants prefer dry soil and may droop in overly moist or rich soils.
