Also known as Rampicante, this delightful summer squash has a unique long neck and bulbous end. Sweeter than most other summer squash or zucchinis. Can be left to mature on the plant for a butternut type of winter squash. Grows on a vining plant rather than a bush. Minimum of 5 g per packet (about 40 seeds).
On its own, fresh summer squash is delicious sauteed in butter with a little garlic. But it is also a wonderful addition to Italian lasagna, Asian stir fries, Middle Eastern curry, sweet breads, and even pancakes. So many ways to use this versatile vegetable. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors.
Sow in rich soil after soil temperatures reach 65°. If vine is allow to spread across the ground, the fruits are typically curved. Grow on a trellis for straighter fruits. Pick fruits when the neck is about 1" in diameter for most tender flesh.
