Butternut squash (Cucurbita moschata) has prolific vines that produce several fruits reaching 4-6 pounds and 9-10" long. These squash store exceptionally well and feature cylindrical necks with small seed cavities and sweet orange flesh. Seed packet contains 5 G (about 32 seeds).
Squash is perfect for long-term storage, is easy to grow and incredibly nutritious. It is amazing roasted and added to soups, salads, pastas and even baked goods. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors
Start indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost, with 2-3 seeds per plug. Alternatively, sow directly in hills outside after danger of frost is past. Plant in fertile, well-draining soil. Thin to the strongest two vines per hill.
