Bottle Gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) is a fun decorative gourd that has a unique bottle shape and can be used as an interesting fall decoration. Also called "birdhouse gourd" as it can provide a wonderful home for feathered neighbors after the seeds have been removed from mature gourds. Seed packet contains 4 G (about 42 seeds).
This ornamental and hardy vining plant produces hard-shelled gourds with a narrow neck and slightly bulbous end. Prized by crafters, the hard shells and hollow nature of the Bottle Gourd makes it perfect for crafting birdhouses and other holiday decor. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors.
Lightly scarify seeds or soak in warm water for 24 hours prior to planting. Sow in rich, well-draining soil in late spring after all danger of frost. Thin to 3-4 seeds per hill once seedlings are 1-2" tall. Vertical support aids air circulation and allows for easier harvesting.
