Bronze Amaranth
Bronze Amaranth
Tall upright plant with green leaves and bronze-chestnut colored plumes. Brings interesting texture and color to flower arrangements. The foliage is edible and if left to fully mature, the abundant seeds can be used as a nutritious alternative grain. Minimum of 1 g (about 1400 seeds) per packet.
Young leaves can be harvested and eaten as greens, and the seeds heads can be toasted and eaten as a grain. This prolific vegetable can also be a gorgeous addition to cut flower arrangements. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors.
Start 6-8 weeks before last frost date, or direct seed outside after all danger of frost is past. Keep seedlings and transplants evenly moist but not overly wet. Set out in a sunny spot with fertile, well-drained soil. Harvest seed heads once they begin to brown. Cut and place in paper bag to dry completely. Shake bag to separate grain.
