Also known as Peanut Pumpkin, Galeux d'Eysines (Cucurbita pepo) is a super sweet French heirloom with salmon skin and bumpy warts that look like peanuts. The warts are formed by sugar oozing out through the skin as it matures and grows sweeter. The super sweet flesh is bright orange and is wonderful for baking. It also does double duty as striking fall decor. Seed packet contains 5 G (about 26 seeds).
This healthy vegetable is wonderful roasted, grilled, baked or puréed. Make sweet breads, cakes, cookies and pies, or go savory with risottos, pastas, casseroles and more. Large, premium seed packets give instructions on how to grow and when to plant outdoors.
Best sown directly in the garden after soil has warmed, but may be started indoors 3-4 weeks early in areas with short growing seasons. Grow in mounds and thin to strongest 2-3 plants per hill. Provide plenty of water, fertilizer, and room to grow.
Days to germination: 7-14
Planting depth: 1"
Plant Spacing: 4-6"
Soil Temperature: 70-90°F
Light Requirements: Full Sun
I haven’t had a chance to plant any of the seeds yet but they all arrived quickly and in good shape. God bless you and your family. Duane.
